54-Caliber Lightweight Gun System

The 54-caliber (Mk 45) lightweight gun provides surface combatant correct marine firing of guns against fast, highly maneuverable exterior target, air intimidation and shore target throughout amphibious operation.

This lightweight gun system offers important improvement in consistency and maintainability over the 54-caliber Mk 42 gun systems. The Mk 45 is prohibited by either the Mk 86 Gun Fire Control System or the Mk 160 Gun Computing System.
